...is quite the hidden gem!!

If you are interested in learning more about World War II...
or maybe you are just interested in seeing some old, war time planes...
THIS is the place for you!!
The 22,000 sq ft museum is filled with memorabilia, planes, cars,
and more from World War II.
You will find military veteran volunteers to talk with during your visit.
So much history lives here.
A historic aviation museum dedicated to remembering those who fought for our freedom, and honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
~a quote from their website
Zach's favorite was this jeep!! {For obvious reasons.}
The POW was on the end of what would have been a gun on a plane
One of our awesome moms in our homeschool group set up this field trip.
If you contact them, and your group is "educational", admission is FREE!
If you don't go as a group, daily admission is $12 per person...
students & veterans are $7
and admission is free for all WWII Vets & for all Vets in uniform.
Be sure to check their website for times of operation!
Our tour guide was WONDERFUL!!
He welcomed any & all questions from the kids.
I noticed when it was one of the littler ones asking questions,
he would bend and squat down to their level to hear and answer them.
One of the things that I noticed, which I thought was very cool...
throughout the musem, being artwork of certain missions,
or doors on planes {like the one pictured below}
veterans would sign their names if they were part of those particular missions,
or had piloted or been assigned to one of the planes.

Here are a couple of overview shots of one of the hangers...

This was a GREAT field trip!!
Both Zach & Liam was very interested in learning more about these planes,
and all the information that the tour guide was sharing.
They both asked questions...
which tells me they were intrigued & wanting to know more about this topic!
Always a good thing!!
Our family HIGHLY RECOMMENDS this for a "Hands on History" kind of experience!
A few years back, Arlee & I watched Pearl Harbor.
It became the spark for her to dig deep into learning more
about the events that happened on that fateful day & the Doolittle Raid.
It was fascinating....her finding out what was "just for the movie",
and what was the truth of the events that really happened.
A couple of books I have come across...
What was Pearl Harbor? by Patricia Brennan Demuth
A Novel of Pearl Harbor: A Boy at War by Harry Mazer
We love Crash Course,
but be sure to watch them yourself first...
just to make sure before using them part of your homeschooling.

Thanks for visiting!!
